Hampelmann / Hampelmann for Poser 12
Last post by Admin - December 08, 2020, 03:18:51 PM
Updated the scripts for Poser 12 (see attachment).

Poser 12 has a different data file format (due to newer Python version). That means that configuration files will be updated to the current version and then cannot be used in older poser versions.
As the files are stored in a subfolder of the poser settings folder, this should not be a problem as the new Poser version uses a different setting folder. But don't move your settings folder from the old to the new location and expect to be able to reverse that...

Actually, after looking at DS' search filters, they're basically not even there. DS has filters for Poser types, but not DS types (other than scene and scripts). WTF.

General AL Discussion / Have you considered releasing ...
Last post by JQP - June 19, 2016, 09:14:45 PM
As I said in my other thread, AL is still very useful to me. DS library has some serious drawbacks:

1. Tied to DS so when DS crashes, so does the library, and when DS is boring you with a progress bar, you can't switch over to the library and browse to the next thing. AL crashes far less often than DS (almost never), so I can keep my place when, not if, DS crashes, and I can start browsing to the next library location while DS is non-responsive while loading content, auto-fitting content, doing a quick render, etc.

2. DS splits the library in two, because you have to view Poser content in "poser mode," and DS content in "DS mode." One of the stupidest design decisions ever. Completely pointless and adds a lot of work and frustration on the user's end. AL shows everything.

3. No virtual folders, so I can't sort content in the library without sorting it in Windows file system. With AL I can, so I can effectively merge runtimes, put all clothing in one place, all figures in one place, etc., exactly how I like it.

4. Search is very slow. AL's search is very fast.

5. Search sucks. If you sneeze the search window disappears and you have to run the (very slow) search all over again.

6. Search filters (for content type) don't work (for me, anyway), and they never have. AL's filters work (but not for duf extension!).

Anyway, you seem to have stopped developing AL long ago, so I was wondering if you would consider releasing the source, so someone else could work on it.

Feature Requests / Add proper handling of duf typ...
Last post by JQP - June 19, 2016, 09:03:42 PM
I think this one would be pretty easy to add, but it would be extremely useful; add proper recognition of duf file types. It looks pretty straightforward, judging by what an unencrypted duf file looks like in my text editor:

{
   "file_version" : "0.6.0.0",
   "asset_info" : {
      "id" : "/[path to file\.duf",
      "type" : "preset_material",

etc., etc. Looks like all you need to do is properly categorize the types and have AL read them. This is a big deal in searches, because filtering by type doesn't work for duf files.

P.S., you might think DS users have moved on from AL, but I sure haven't. DS' library does this completely idiotic thing where it only shows DS content when you are looking in the DS content category, and only shows Poser content when you're looking in the Poser content category, so the "wrong" types are all invisible if you aren't in the right category (e.g., like when I've saved V4 clothing autofitted to G3F to a subfolder where the V4 content is located, because that's where I've put all the MATs). Basically, DS has two libraries, and you have to navigate all the frickin way down the tree again if you want to check for the "wrong" type of content. There isn't even a way to quickly swap between looking at a directory in "DS mode" and "Poser mode." Sometimes Daz does inexplicably stupid shit, and this is one of those times. And DS' search doesn't even let you filter by type. It says it does, but it doesn't work for me, and it never has.

AL is the only app that shows every kind of content. Plus search is waaaay faster than in DS library. So adding duf types would be huge for me. I wish I had the cash, because I'd pay you to add this feature if I did.

My hero!
Thank you very much for this workaround. I wouldn't know what to do without my AL.
And I agree, I'd willingly buy it as it is, beta or not.

Your welcome! I was very frightened because I feared I couldn't use this library anymore and now there is no problem to continue using the beta.

Thanx jordirc. Totally missed that message :-\ I've added the parameter to my shortcut and it works.
