Title: Tutorials?
Post by: franontheedge on February 08, 2008, 03:18:16 PM
Can someone direct me to where the simple newby tutorials are located?

I think I've got the 'Advanced Library' installed, but could not find the "acb" file anywhere - and I've got no idea what to do next now that I've got the program running.

For instance I've just installed something (DAZ's mini artist's palette) to see what happened when I did that.

But the answer seems to be - "Nothing at all happens".

Like... I can't find it in 'Advanced Library' at all.

Help?

I guess there are none, but there are step by step instructions for a simple setup (http://www.neocron.webspaceforme.net/library/simplesetup/) and an advanced setup (http://www.neocron.webspaceforme.net/library/setup/). But the easiest way with the latest beta is to switch to the settings tab and then right click on the "Advanced Library" node below and choose "Import Poser Runtime". From the dialog then select a runtime you want to browse with AL and click import. Close the dialog and switch to the Library tab. If you don't see anything but a "History" node, right click that and deselect "Use synchronized Library". You should then see the imported runtime(s).

(You can also switch back to the settings tab and click "Synchronize Library" at the bottom. That'll create an index of all Poser files and folders and show these when "Use synchronized Library" is activated. That usually means less hard drive activity while you browse the library. The index is also used for the search, so you'll probably want to synchronize once in a while.)

"acb" should be a new folder inside your programs (Start->Programs), not a file :-)

You need to tell AL where your runtimes are located first (see above).

Oh dear.  That I had already found - and had problems understanding it, which is why I wanted a simple tutorial - to explain it all.

I don't HAVE an "Import Poser Runtime" there.
I enclose the screen cap of all I see in Advanced Library on that settings tab- no "Import Poser Runtime" anywhere in sight.

(P.S. I don't have Poser installed on this machine - just Daz)

Oh P.P.S. I found the acb file - but as it's already IN the Start/Programs folder - I don't understand why the instructions on the installation page - are telling you to put it there, when it's already there?  "After installation, a folder called "acb" should be placed in the programs group of your start menu."  That's crazy!

(I'm very puzzled)

"Import Poser Runtime" is in the context menu of the tree on the left side, just below the tabs (same context menu as "Add Category").

If you really don't have any Poser content installed, then you'll probably just want to add your DAZ Studio content directory. (If you don't know where that is located, you can find that information in Studio under "Edit -> Preferences" on the  "Directories" tab (DAZ Studio Content Directories).)

Then you either open that directory in Window's Exporer and Drag&Drop it onto any category on the settings tab tree or switch to the explorer tab in AL and navigate to that folder add add it via the context menu ("Add to Library").

Quote"After installation, a folder called "acb" should be placed in the programs group of your start menu."
I changed that text so it's more clear that the installer placed that there, it's just to tell you where to look for the installed files ;-)

I added a content import option for DAZ Studio to this beta (http://"http://www.neocron.webspaceforme.net/library/installer/Advanced_Library_1_8_0_5.zip).

If you can use your content in DAZ Studio, then you'll get AL to show it with the following steps:

Switch to the "Setup" tab. Right click "Advanced Library", choose "Import Poser Runtime / Studio Content" from the context menu (see left part of the attached image). On the following click the "Show DAZ Studio Content" then the "Import" button and then the "Close" button.

Switch back to the "Library" tab. Right click anywhere on the left and make sure that you have "Use synchronized library" unchecked (see right part of the image).

Now you should see your Studio content listed...
