After the reboot required by the installation of .Net 2.0, I ran the setup.exe program as instructed. Shortly after it started, I got a dialog box sayign the installation failed with a "Details" button that brought up the attached log file in Notepad. It looks like there is an issue with the signature on the application-- the manifest in the application install does not match the signature.
I'm really looking forward to using this utility, poser's content organization is awful. Hope you can figure out the problem.
Thanks,
Jeff Osborn
BTW, the original log file extension was ".log"-- had to change it to ".txt" to get it to upload to the support site.
Hmm... i cleaned everything and rebuilt AL... Try that please:

If it doesn't work: What browser and Windows Version are you using?
I am using Windows 2000 with the latest updates. and MSIE 6.0 with the latest patches.
I get the same thing with the latest version. Has anyone else tried this installation? Why does it require any kind of signature or cert in the first place?
I had to activate it because the beta didn't accept any unsigned stuff at all..
Disabled the assembly signing, please try that:

My install went fine on XP SR2. Have you done a full windows update prior to installation?
Still no luck.
Have you looked at the log file that is generated? Are there any clues in that for you? I noticed that it's refering to files not by the full file name but by the truncated DOS 8.3 format "Advanc~1.app" instead of the full name "Advanced_Library.application"..
Also the log says that it has trouble reading the manifest for the file, which it says is one of the following:
+ The manifest may not be valid or the fiile cannot be opened.
+ The Manifest XML signature is invalid.
+ Keyset does not exist.
So, what the heck is a "keyset"? I know what a manifest is-- it's a description of what is in the installation, but a keyset?
I'm going to try to reinstall the .Net 2.0 Framework. That may have been hosed somehow.
As I said I'm running Windows 2000. I'd rather die of a flesh-eating virus in my genital area than use XP (I've tried it, I hate it). Do I have to use XP to run this app?
I reinstalled (repaired) .Net 2.0. I am running the latest patches from Microsoft for Windows 2000 (are there any other Win2K users out there?).
Any chance you are using the same key set as some other software publisher? I've got a lot of sotware on my machine...
One other possibility...
I had the beta version of .Net on my machine before installing your applicaiton. It required me to uninstall the beta .Net 2.0 before proceeding, but I wonder if having the beta .Net 2.0 on the machine hosed up future .Net installations somehow. I have another machine I can tryh the installation on, unfortunately, it had the beta .Net 2.0 on it also.
I sometimes miss the old days when installs were simple.
i figured out a way to get it work...
I installed the application on a second machine, which did not have any problems. Once that was done, I copied the files installed (buried down under C:/documents and settings/<user>/Local Settings/apps of all places-- not under "Program Files" as expected) over a network share onto the box that was giving me trouble. Once there, I set up shortcuts to the "Advanced_Library.exe" file in its new location.
Ugly, but it works just fine now. I have no idea why the install was dying, but I refuse to be defeated by "uppity sand", which is what a computer is.
The application seems to work just fine-- you may not need the install itself. Future installation problems might be prevented by just providing an already unpacked or "installed" version of all the files in a zip file that just has to be unpacked for the app to run. You'd have to tell folks that the .Net 2.0 runtime needed to be installed (with a link to MS for it), but there does not appear to be any requirement for an install (setup.exe) that appears to break for some people (well, me anyway).
Thanks.
Thanks for the info. I'll add that to downloads when i've got time.
That second machine's got Win 2k, too, i guess?
I'm not really responsible for the weird installation path, that's part of the click once deployment... It's got some nice features, if it only worked the same for everyone ,-)
twajjo, could you please download the latest version?
It comes without the setup.exe.
Please try to to run it by clicking Advanced_Library.application and also Advanced_Library_1_0_0_6.application.
Does any of them work for you? If not, can you move the files to a different drive and try there?
Thanks in advance!
Still goes bonk...
Sorry. Tried it on a different drive, too-- still no luck.
I DO have the application running by copying it over from another machine. (As I posted yesterday).
