Dizzi,

I think your forum password requirements are the worst I've ever seen.  And I've signed up for hundreds of forums over the years.

My password is Password1.  That's how bad your requirements are...I'm making mine public so I don't forget it and have to reset it again.  :)

Love Advanced Library though.  :)  I'm having installation problems again.  Seems like this happens every time I reinstall windows.  :(  Still trying to pin down the art of backup up so that I can get my OS to work the way it did before, still haven't quite gotten the hang of that.

I'm on XP SP3.  I had to uninstall my virus suite, but I finally managed to get .net framework 2.0 installed cleanly.  I tried the Microsoft Script 5.7 thingy that worked for me last time, but XP says it's unneeded.  I've rebooted several times.

This time, when I click the latest BETA, nothing happens at all, unless you get the split-second the mouse pointer changes to an hourglass.  No log is created, unless you're stashing them someplace new I don't know about yet.  I've tried cleaning out the Local Settings folder, I've tried filling the folder with content from a backup, nada.  I've tried several BETAs from 1.7 to 1.9, nada.  I'm going to download 1.0 or whatever your stable version is and try it next.  Otherwise I'm out of ideas.

Thanks,
J

edit: nope, same thing with stable version.

Try installing and running this empty project.

If that doesn't work then there's something really wrong with your installation.

Wow, that was fast!  Nope, didn't work.  I'm going to try a manual cleanup of .net and try running that cleanup tool again (it was giving me a nice endless loop error on me before I uninstalled Krapersky and I didn't try using it after).

It would be nice if, given how finicky it seems to be, there was a comprehensive test app for .net, to put it through its paces and check if everything's in order.

Thanks

JQP

Weird, the Dotnetfx Cleanup Tool is still giving me the endless loop thing.  It crashes as soon as I run it.

When I uninstalled Krapersky, the error messages installing .net 2.0 stopped and now it reports a good install.

Any advice on how I can figure out what's wrong with .net and my computer?

Not really, but are there any messages in the event log?
Tons, but nothing related to AL as far as I can tell.  I checked the Applications log, closed the viewer, tried about seven times to execute the latest BETA and the stable version, then started the viewer again and I didn't see any new messages.  Anything in particular in the viewer I should be looking for?  Stuff's written in Greek as far as I'm concerned.

Mmmh, well, does AL install and just don't run? Or does it not even install?

You can also try to remove the .NET 2 framework ant install a new version 3.0 or 3.5.

Doesn't even start to install.  Doesn't run, doesn't do anything, unless you count a split second change of the mouse pointer to hourglass and back.

Hey, why the hell not.  Beats throwing the kitchen sink at my computer, which is what I was about to do.

Dizzi

Did you unzip the empty project from below and ran the setup.exe?

I just tried that too, but nothing's showing up in the Application log.  Though the setup.exe did raise a window for a millisecond or two, just enough for me to tell it's a window trying to render before it's gone.

Dizzi

Well, the setup.exe should run even if there's no .NET framework installed... Does anything else downloaded from the web work?

JQP

I don't have any other .net apps to try (got 1 for 1.1 I could try though), but yeah if you mean .exe files they work fine.

JQP

Weird.  Yesterday I could install and uninstall .net 1.1 just fine, now the installer's refusing to complete.  It rolls back halfway through.

I'm thinking about taking off and nuking the site from orbit.

JQP

Okay, I installed a stripped-down version of XP Pro SP3 on another partition and installed dotnet 2.0.  I extracted AL and managed to get it to run.  So I'm pretty sure at least that my copy of dotnet 2.0 isn't corrupted or anything.

I still can't get AL to run or give me a log on my real XP installation though.

Dizzi

Is there any log written to "Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temp"?
