General AL Discussion / seems like max number of items...
Last post by ibr_remote - June 05, 2012, 04:48:30 AM
Now using AL 1.9.2.16 on windows 7 32-bit OS, NTFS file system.

I am experienced user of AL for many years, so I know about the basic operations.

I create category, and add my HUGE collection of Poser content to the category.
But.
AL does not want to add some of the folders after synchronisation.
I create a new category, and add those dropped folders.
I run a synchronisation, and AL accepts those folders in the new category.

I think there is some type of cap or maximum number of items for each category.

Anyway, this is my work-around, in case anyone needs to know.

General AL Discussion / Totally mystified
Last post by ozzie34231 - February 18, 2012, 11:57:33 PM
Hi,
I'm new to poser, been playing around for 6 months.
The poser content structure blows my mind, so I downloaded this program with the hope it would help me. No such luck; I don't get to first base with it.
I know where my installed content is, and I have tons of uninstalled content is, but then what???
I've read the docs 10 times, and I just don't get it. I've tried but, nothing happens as the instructions say.
I like to think I'm not stupid, ( doesn't everyone), I'm heavily into Computer machine control, I write articles for magazines, I've been a stock and commodity broker, 13 years for Merrill Lynch, I've been a successful restaurant chef/owner, and a small time inventor.

I have poser pro 2012 installed on another computer and tons of content installed by letting poser just install it. Nothing seems to be where it should be, I can only find things by using "search".
So I thought I'd start clean on this laptop. The stock stuff is installed. Now what???? I don't have a clue.

If you all think I'm just too retarded, tell me, I'm mostly all grown up at 73.

Feature Requests / Re: Please put beta expiration...
Last post by aeddan - February 12, 2012, 06:24:39 AM
Is there any plan to implement this?

And just as a general question - why does the software have to expire, anyway? This is a fantastic piece of software, and I'd be at an absolute loss without it. I'd much rather use an old, unsupported beta, than do without (or be forced to upgrade).

Right-Click>Show References>Right-Click>Copy to Clipboard

Nothing is copied if the file isn't found/the "Resolved" field is blank.  This has been this way for as long as I can remember.  It may be a feature, not a bug, but it would be helpful if I could copy the contents of the "Original" field to the clipboard so I could send Windows Explorer right to that location via the address bar.
That's right, only resolved references are copied.
I think it would be an improvement if unresolved references could be copied, too.  Gives user a head start on finding the right file.

Also, "Pick New File" doesn't seem to do anything.
A new dialog should open which lets you choose a different file. That file will then show up on the resolved side. If you then click "save as" you can save the file with the new references.

That works for me... Where does it fail for you?
[/quote]
It failed for me right at the beginning, when I tried it with a broken reference.  It was failing with found files for me, too, but I just checked and that side of things is working fine now.  Might've been a config problem?  I'll have to wait until I come across another broken reference before I can check to see if it's now working for broken refs, too.

Thanks Dizz.  I love AL.  :)

Feature Requests / Re: Option to hide hidden fold...

QuotePlease try http://neocron.webspaceforme.net/library/installer/Advanced_Library_1_9_2_18_NET4.zip. Set the checkbox for the new Setting Ignore hidden folders (Settings > Misc.). Hidden folders should then be ignored when AL crawls through directories. So you'll have to synchronize, if you're using the synced library view.
Will do, thanks.

Edit: tried it, works a treat, thanks for the speedy (and cheap!  :D ) service.

QuoteYou can even try to break your references with AL's installation helper ;-)
I haven't touched that feature yet.  But now that you've mentioned it I'll have to try it out.  Any docs or info available on exactly how it works and what it does?

QuoteWhat do you mean by tabs feature?
Exact same principle as tabs in a web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox), but for libraries.  Install QTTabBar for Windows Explorer and give it a spin.

P.S., I still think adding a tabs feature to AL would rock on toast.  That would cut down on all the back and forth browsing.

Or just follow Windows' lead and stop showing hidden folders.

I used to fret over all the junk Poser content authors STUPIDLY dump all over my runtime, especially the libraries folder, that I can't move without changing all the references or buying software to change them, and maybe break something.  Recently I had the gigantic "duh" eureka moment of just hiding these stupidly placed folders.  Trouble is, AL still displays them.  :(

Thanks again for the app, by the way.  I'm totally spoiled now and hate messing around with Daz Studio's content tab.

Just came here to download the newest AL version and wanted to say a big THANK YOU.
I enjoy using AL very much, you've done a really good job on that software! I'm happy to see that development continues :)
